We love going back to London. After 10 years away, we have started to miss it quite a lot, and we really still feel like Londoners each time we are there. Dorset has always felt like some kind of temporary home, whereas London IS home!

This time, we were in the capital on a secret mission which, of course, had something to do with books!
The volumes pictured above are the most valuable books we have in our stock. We have decided to try something out: they now are with a reputable London auction house specialising in books and manuscripts, and we hope that they will go under the hammer in early autumn!
Fingers crossed, please! We're counting on them to raise some money towards the printing costs of The Right Place!

I am coming back to my websites and blogs a little earlier than planned - I was getting a little bit impatient, and it will take time for me to get used to posting regularly on here again!

I have just posted a "writing and inspiration" post on my author website Miss Gish.com about going back to Abbotsbury and St Catherine chapel for the first time in quite a while. You will find the post HERE.
This is a kind of prelude to starting writing again, which will probably be in September (the Arcane Publishing office needs a summer refresh first, and this will be taking place throughout August!).

I wouldn't want to confirm a publishing schedule here as I have created and scraped a dozen of them since I started work on my third novel The Right Place, but I think this time, it is going to happen (unless life throws another of obstacle across my path...)

And so I am still hoping that Arcane Publishing will publish its third book sometime in 2027, which by the way is a very special year for us... But more on that closer to 2027!

Today, we are presenting a new acquisition to our collection/stock of vintage and rare books... And it is a good one!

Witchcraft in England by folklorist and writer Christina Hole (1896-1985) and illustrated by artist and writer Mervyn Peake (1911 -1968) and future author of the Gormenghast series. This copy is the second impression of the first 1945 edition published by B.T. Batsford Ltd. It is in excellent condition and still has its full, striking dust jacket!

Instagram and other social media are absolutely useless for promoting a business and it's full of desperate people shouting for attention (some of them not even real and AI generated), adverts, more adverts, more AI...

It is getting more and more difficult to see the posts of the artists and musicians we follow - we have to go to every single page to get updates!

Miss Gish has a busy summer of work, and then in the autumn, she will be getting her head down and finally finish off that third novel she's been working on since 2012...

In the autumn, we will have to pay for two more years of the imprint and author websites which have sadly been very neglected over the past few years.

Therefore, from September, we will resume using the blogs on both websites more regularly to talk about books, writing, art, music, culture and more in a world that wants to get rid of creatives as quickly as possible. Universities are closing humanities, language, literature and arts departments (all the things that make life worth living), and people don't use their brains anymore.

The more people live their lives online, the more we at ArtPix/Arcane HQ want to reject the online world!

We will still post updates on the Arcane Instagram page but it will be only when we have posted on the websites...

We are really chuffed to announce that the lovely Trevilley Exchange Library at Trevilley, Cornwall, is now back up and running and features one copy of each of Miss Gish's novels I Am a Muse and The Book of Thoth!

Trevilley is "the westernmost rose garden in the country" and is home to author Patrick Gale and sculptor Aidan Hicks.

Miss Gish's first novel I Am a Muse will fit right in, as it's about a (dead) painter and sculptor and is mostly set in Cornwall!

The Arcane Team is now off on a road trip to Northern Scotland!
We will be back at the end of May with hopefully some news about our past and future books as well as developing ventures...

We will be in London this Saturday 11th April (Matt ArtPix will have a stall and there will be items from the Arcane Publishing stock there!) for our first Go East Vintage event. We're going to trial a few of their venues and hope to become regular traders with them if it all goes well.

I will bring some art posters, ephemera and quite a lot of paperbacks, including Penguin books, thrillers, detective and sci-fi books. See you there!

Just when we were about to post the list of events we will be attending this Spring, the war in the Middle East has thrown a doubt over all the events we've booked, so we will have to wait and see...

We've had a slow start to 2026, but things are finally moving in the right direction!

For the past week, we've been opening boxes and checking our shelves to do an audit of the pre-loved, vintage and rare books in our stock and organise everything a little bit more. We need to decide how and where to sell our stock as there is no question of opening a brick-and-mortar shop in the near future, even though it is really what we'd like to do eventually... Online and markets look like the solution we might go for, but we are going to take our time as we want to do this as professionally as possible. We'll need to get a card payment solution for markets and get some promo items done (the Arcane Publishing designer, @mattartpix, is sadly sans computer at the moment!)

2026 will also hopefully the year we bring Miss Gish's third novel The Right Place to life. Work is restarting on draft 1 next Monday!

Whilst foraging in one of the stock cupboard, we came across those handmade promo cards we made back in 2013 to promote the publication of I Am a Muse... They were never used in the end as we wanted to appear a bit more professional than those handmade cards suggested... But now that we've found them again, we thought we might as well use them!
So we'll be dropping them in book boxes in the area and beyond together with copies of I Am a Muse and The Book of Thoth - once the weather has improved, of course!

We will be with @mattartpix on his stall at the @thelazyflea in Chiswick, London, next Sunday 4t January!
We will have a few books (including a box full of £5 books - stock to get rid of!), some beautiful fashion books and prints as well as ephemera.
This is always a packed event, so let's see how many people venture out on what promises to be a cold post-holiday Sunday!
