There is a small feature about Matt ArtPix and a whole page review of I Am a Muse! Read Carya Gish's blog about the review HERE. There are loads of interesting features in the magazine and everything is high quality and elegant... V&OAK is distributed to most newsagents in Central London and is also available in Harrods and Selfridges! We are just waiting for the post to be delivered and things to get confirmed... Bear with us!
In the meantime, head to Carya Gish's new blog to read about what's happening with The Book of Thoth manuscript, Book 3, The Right Place, and about what Steve Pottinger, who has typset I Am a Muse for us, has been up to! There is a small review of the Shorelines literary festival written by Carya Gish in issue 16 of Southend's cultural magazine, Level 4 (a longer report from the festival can be found HERE).
This should have been a printed magazine, but unfortunately the editor didn't receive enough advertising revenue to pay for the printing. The magazine is available to read online HERE. There are quite a few interesting articles in there so make sure you go and have a read! 3/31/2014 Matt ArtPix's new seriesCarya Gish is polishing off The Book of Thoth, and therefore not blogging as much at the moment. Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix are also taking a break from fairs and markets. This doesn't mean nothing is happening behind the scenes!
Matt ArtPix is working on a new series of images, Southend postcards... He regularly posts updates about the designs, so head to his blog to read more about it! More news about our various activities soon! 3/24/2014 Arcane Publishing Online shopIt has been a bit quiet on here, but we are working hard behind the scenes!
Arcane Publishing hope to open a small online shop this Spring/Summer where you will be able to purchase our original fiction and second-hand books. We will be working on this in the forthcoming weeks and hope to be open for business in July latest! We also hope to be present at more fairs and events with Matt ArtPix this year. We are looking at various options before making any bookings and we will make announcements about this in the forthcoming weeks. Stay tuned! The Book of Thoth news: still on schedule for a late autumn 2014 publication! 3/17/2014 Crook Log picturesArcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix are taking a break from fairs and markets to plot their next move! We hope to bring you some more news soon...
In the meantime, draft 3 of The Book of Thoth is going well - one copy is with our reader! - and we hope to start typesetting the book at the end of June. We are still on schedule! Here are a few pictures of the Arcane Publishing stall at the Crook Log Antiques and collectors fair on Sunday 9th March. We hope to bring the stall to Central London by this summer. Watch this space! 2/4/2014 New on Miss Gish's website! From late Spring 2014, Miss Gish - who used to be a music journalist - will bring you some interviews with authors and indie publishers...
This will first be an experiment over a few months, but it will become a regular feature on her website if it all goes well! Read more about it HERE. In the meantime, draft 2 of The Book of Thoth is going well, and we are getting ready for our first markets of 2014 where some of our fab second-hand books will be available to purchase - as well as copies of I Am a Muse! We are also thinking hard about how to set up an online shop for our published novels and second-hand books! If we decide to have a go, it probably won't be before late 2014/early 2015, as we really would like to stick to our publication date for The Book of Thoth and there is a lot to be done! Matt ArtPix has been hard at work on the style sheet for The Book of Thoth. We still have a few things to sort out, but it is looking good...
More to come soon... So we have started the long, long process necessary to try and obtain permission to print the lyrics of PJ Harvey's The Wind in Carya Gish's third novel, The Right Place.
Island Records have answered, so one point for us. BUT they told us that we needed to contact PJ Harvey's music publisher - so not Island Records - and that for this particular track, there were TWO writers so I had to contact TWO separate companies... I think they were referring to the fact that the song apparently contains portions of "Planet of The Apes" by Jerry Goldsmith - I didn't know that - although I am not sure how this would be linked to permission to print lyrics... I know this is a bit crazy because we have a sneaky suspicion that 1) It probably won't lead to anything as PJ Harvey is now huge and 2) the price will be so high that it will be impossible for us to print them. Ideally, we'd like to have the whole song. Realistically, if we are granted permission, it will probably end up being for one stanza of the song, which we'd be more than happy to settle with. We need to know how much this potentially would be as we might apply for an Arts Council Grant and we have to put a budget together. We'd be so chuffed to get permission to use the lyrics! 11/21/2013 SHORELINES VIDEOMETAL presents : Shorelines from Sparky Film on Vimeo. Metal have just posted a fab video of Shorelines: Literature festival of the sea by Sparky Film. It really shows very well what it's all about!
