We had a great day with MattArtPix on his stall at the brilliant Vintage furniture and Flea market at Paintworks in Bristol!
We have traded at this venue twice before and it's always a pleasure to be back there (we also love the atmospheric Arnos Vale Cemetery which is located across the road!)

I had a few books (not pictured!) and loads of prints - I only have three of the Vogue Cover prints left! Now to make more ready for our next event next week!
I will post more about this one next week after our trip to London this weekend (gig alert!)

MattArtPix's mid-century treasures... Most of them now sold!

We have another event, this time in London on Sunday 25th October - more details soon!

This week, Radio 4 has a programme called Life As a Muse about artists' muses. We thought it would be the perfect time to remind people of Miss Gish's (and Arcane's) first publication, I Am a Muse (2013), which deals with just that theme (among others): the role of the muse in an artist's life.

Miss Gish has written a small blog about HERE. Go and give it a read...
We'll be back soon with more news about events, etc.
In the meantime, do check our Instagram regularly!

The Arcane/ArtPix team is going to be in London quite a bit over the next few months, both for business and pleasure!

First up for us will be the Go East Vintage Flea Weekender at Wapping Power Station organised by the powerhouse duo Louisa and Onur of Go East Vintage! We cannot wait to trade at this iconic London venue - Miss Gish will be helping Matt ArtPix on his stall and there will be some of the Arcane stock on Matt's stall on Saturday 5th September!

We'll have art and fashion prints and a small stock of books (and CDs). Here is a taste of what's to come to London next Saturday!

]]><![CDATA[Arcane Publishing: starting again...]]>Sun, 09 Aug 2026 16:34:28 GMThttps://www.arcanepublishing.net/news/arcane-publishing-starting-again

We're not going to lie, working on Arcane Publishing business has been difficult since covid, but we are now ready to get started again properly: Miss Gish will start work on the first draft of her third novel, The Right Place, on 1st September.

We hope that nothing will once again come and scupper those plans, and we intend on publishing a (very limited) edition of The Right Place towards the end of 2027.

Check out Miss Gish's blog for regular updates on the progress of the novel HERE.

Miss Gish's new blog about a day in London this week is now live and you can read it HERE! There's music and art!

In other news, we are having a very busy summer of work, and we're also updating the Arcane HQ with a lick of paint (hence a bit of chaos all around...)

Miss Gish will start work on her first draft of The Right Place on 1st September and this time, we hope to be able to go all the way to publication in late 2027... Watch this space!

More news as it comes!

]]><![CDATA[Bridport Vintage Market 26/07/2026]]>Fri, 24 Jul 2026 16:59:05 GMThttps://www.arcanepublishing.net/news/bridport-vintage-market-26072026

This weekend, it's the fab BRIDPORT VINTAGE MARKET on the St Michael's Estate in Bridport! Matt ArtPix will be there with his usual array of interesting vintage items and he will also have a bit of the Arcane Publishing vintage book stock! Which books will you find?

We have selected a small amount of volumes which will ALL be at £2 each only (I need to sell them!)

There will be some lovely vintage PENGUIN books...

... as well as some vintage hardback books, including some of Denis Val Baker's books about Cornwall. Most are first editions and should be worth more than £2, but I need to make some space on my shelves as I have too much stock at the moment... So come and grab yourself a bargain in Bridport!

A lot of things are happening at the Arcane/ArtPix HQ...

We're going to have a busy autumn/winter, and 2027 so far is looking quite something!
More soon...

]]><![CDATA[To London on a secret mission with a bag of books!]]>Sat, 18 Jul 2026 12:50:34 GMThttps://www.arcanepublishing.net/news/to-london-on-a-secret-mission-with-a-bag-of-books

We love going back to London. After 10 years away, we have started to miss it quite a lot, and we really still feel like Londoners each time we are there. Dorset has always felt like some kind of temporary home, whereas London IS home!

This time, we were in the capital on a secret mission which, of course, had something to do with books!
The volumes pictured above are the most valuable books we have in our stock. We have decided to try something out: they now are with a reputable London auction house specialising in books and manuscripts, and we hope that they will go under the hammer in early autumn!
Fingers crossed, please! We're counting on them to raise some money towards the printing costs of The Right Place!

]]><![CDATA[Witchcraft in England by Christina Hole]]>Sun, 12 Jul 2026 15:58:57 GMThttps://www.arcanepublishing.net/news/witchcraft-in-england-by-christina-hole

I am coming back to my websites and blogs a little earlier than planned - I was getting a little bit impatient, and it will take time for me to get used to posting regularly on here again!

I have just posted a "writing and inspiration" post on my author website Miss Gish.com about going back to Abbotsbury and St Catherine chapel for the first time in quite a while. You will find the post HERE.
This is a kind of prelude to starting writing again, which will probably be in September (the Arcane Publishing office needs a summer refresh first, and this will be taking place throughout August!).

I wouldn't want to confirm a publishing schedule here as I have created and scraped a dozen of them since I started work on my third novel The Right Place, but I think this time, it is going to happen (unless life throws another of obstacle across my path...)

And so I am still hoping that Arcane Publishing will publish its third book sometime in 2027, which by the way is a very special year for us... But more on that closer to 2027!

Today, we are presenting a new acquisition to our collection/stock of vintage and rare books... And it is a good one!

Witchcraft in England by folklorist and writer Christina Hole (1896-1985) and illustrated by artist and writer Mervyn Peake (1911 -1968) and future author of the Gormenghast series. This copy is the second impression of the first 1945 edition published by B.T. Batsford Ltd. It is in excellent condition and still has its full, striking dust jacket!
