Arcane Publishing will be at The Forum (Southend's new state of the art library) on Saturday 28th March as part of The Southend Area Local Authors' Day, an event which is part of the Essex Book Festival. Miss Gish will be there 10am-4pm and will have copies of I Am a Muse and The Book of Thoth on sale at our special "events" prices! We will also have a poster showing off The Right Place's cover artwork. Come and see loads of authors and purchase lovely books! Here's our poster introducing The Right Place!
Arcane Publishing is delighted to once again trade at So Vintage London in Old Spitalfields market this Saturday 7th March! As usual, Arcane will be trading alongside designer Matt ArtPix who will have his always colourful designs for sale as well as an interesting range of antiques and collectibles! As for the Arcane stall, here is a little preview of what we will have for you on the day: Of course, as usual, we will have a few fashion books... And also some surprise vintage vinyl records! Also on our stall... A few weeks ago, I got my hands on a fabulous stash of second-hand books (mostly published in the 70s and 80s - I've researched them and some are quite difficult to find!), all Sherlock Holmes-related! The great detective is as popular as ever - the superb Sherlock Holmes exhibition is still on at the Museum of London, only a few minutes away from Old Spitalfields (see my blog about the exhibition HERE). It is also great timing: this week on ITV starts a new drama inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's life (and based on a novel by Julian Barnes): Arthur and George. Also out soon at the cinema is Mr Holmes, with Ian McKellen. I am also looking forward to reading Dreaming Spies, the latest in the fantastic Mary Russell and Sherlock Holmes series written by Laurie R. King. In my third novel, The Right Place, one of the characters is a Sherlock Holmes enthusiast who plays the violin late into the night and my fifth novel will be a "rural noir" story based on Exmoor and a tribute to The Hound of The Baskervilles. For So Vintage, I have selected four of the volumes plus a packet of Royal Mail Stamp cards featuring some great Sherlock illustrations! I usually have with me a few books related to classic cinema. This time, I will bring with me a nice Marilyn Monroe bundle made of two gorgeous photo books and two very rare Picture Post magazines from the 40s featuring Marilyn BEFORE she was known. Both covers do not bear her name at all as she was "only" an obscure model at the time! For the first time we will bring out a stunning and completely unique Fashion portfolio from the late 60s/early 70s! It comprises: *Scrapbook: fashion photographs cut out of magazines of the time. *Fashion project from a student at the West Sussex College of Art. We have an assignment letter dating one section of the project to February 1968! Over 120 hand drawn designs (pencil, biro, paint and felt tips) together with design notes and some fabric swatches; This could be a whole catwalk collection: day wear, evening wear, night wear, dresses, jackets, trousers, coats, bikinis... All done in a very 60s style! This is a completely one-off, unique item... All presented in a brand new cardboard portfolio! And of course, we will have copies of our two publications to date: I Am a Muse and The Book of Thoth at our special "events" prices! See you there!
