The Book of Thoth... coming soon!

Picture
The second proofs of The Book of Thoth have landed on Miss Gish's desk and will be checked in the forthcoming days. Things are looking really good!
We have added a cast of characters and a lovely map of Whitemoor Hall so readers can find their way around the estate. Also, in the story, Dimitri, one of the main characters, spends his time drawing maps of the house; we thought it would be a rather nice touch to add our own map to the book!

Next event! Southend Book and Arts fair

Picture
Here's the official  poster for the next event Arcane Publishing will be attending: The Southend Book and Arts fair at the wonderful Forum, which is Southend award-winning shiny new library and art gallery.
Arcane Publishing will have a stall next to our designer Matt ArtPix, and we will be concentrating on entertainment, young readers, fantasy and sci-fi (more details about our stock will be revealed before the event!)
We will be selling copies of Carya Gish's first novel I Am a Muse at the special event price of £6 (instead of RRP of £7.99) and we will be promoting her next novel, The Book of Thoth, to be published later this autumn (unfortunately, it will be not printed on time for the fair!).

The Arcane Publishing team is looking forward to it!

Old Spitalfields

Picture
Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix had a great day at So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market yesterday. The truth is that this is probably our favourite market!
The logistics are incredibly easy (get into car/A13/arrive), you get a buzz the whole day because you are in the middle of that fabulous city that is London.
Our pitch was fantastic, with a lot of space to get creative with our tables and create a colourful and attractive stall. We had changed the layout of the stalls and we had tweaked our stock - and we had a lot of interest, people really looked and browsed and even asked us when we'd be back, which is fantastic.
Unfortunately, we cannot post any pictures of the day as WE HAD FORGOTTEN OUR CAMERA! But trust us, the stalls looked fab.
I now need to stock up on more books about vintage fashion and classic icons - my "Marilyn Monroe in fashion" book lasted less than an hour on the stall!
We hope to be back at Old Spitalfields market on November 1st (we booked some holidays and a local event ages ago for September and October!).
But Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing have been discussing the possibility of getting a monthly slot at Old Spitalfields in order to build up an audience/custom from 2015. Watch this space!

The Book of Thoth is on schedule!

Picture
Yesterday, Matt ArtPix finished the typesetting of The Book of Thoth. Now it's Miss Gish's turn to read through and make a few corrections and adjustments. Matt ArtPix will now finish off the cover design and we hope to have everything ready to go to the printers around 25th September after our much deserved holiday! We are on schedule, and it is getting very exciting! The book looks terrific!

New stock: something different...

*Please note: the vinyls are not available to buy online. We only sell them at events!
Picture
A new, very special item has now been added to our stock.
If you have a child in love with wonderful stories, this is one for you!

This is the story "L'Oiseau du Nord et l'Oiseau du Sud" / "The Snow Bird and the Sun Bird" narrated by Grace Kelly of Monaco! This is a bilingual vinyl from 1970, recorded by Grace of Monaco, formerly movie star Grace Kelly in two languages, French and English. There is also the illustrated book of the story in both languages; the images are by prolific Belgian artist Nadine Forster (linked article is in French).

This comes from Miss Gish's personal collection. As a child, she already dreamt of becoming a writer and adored books and stories, and she has dozens of them, unfortunately mostly in French...

This is a genuinely lovely item that will enchant any story-loving child and adult!

Find it on our stall at our next market, So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market on 2nd August!

So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields - pictures!

Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing had a great day at Old Spitalfields market on Saturday, our first one in this London location.
The logistics were suprisingly easy to work out: take A13, arrive.

There was a handy car park round the corner, and our stalls were spacious, with loads of leg room and freedom of movement around the space.
Old Spitalfields is a stimulating environment to trade in and we will be back on August 2nd for another So Vintage London event with a different layout for the stalls and slightly different stocks - it's important to always refresh and try new things out! We are already working on it!

We hope to trade regularly at Old Spitalfields in the future, watch this space...

Here are a few pictures of the day!

The Book of Thoth sample pages!

Matt ArtPix has been hard at work on Part I of The Book of Thoth, trying things out... It does look good... A few tweaks required but we're there, really!

New event, new stock!

We have just acquired a few items for our stock, just on time for our next events (news just in this morning!): Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix will be trading at Old Spitalfields Market as part of So Vintage London on 5th July. We are very pleased to have been selected and we hope that this will become a regular spot for us... Maybe not every months, but several times in the year would be good! We have some more exciting events lined up for you for the rest of the year, but we need to confirm them first before announcing them. Watch this space!

Below are a few new acquisitions from this weekend. I would like to concentrate on fashion, music and classic cinema icons and glamour for So Vintage, so I was really thrilled with some great finds!
80s fashion with some great illustrations!

Published in 1986

The book itself is not vintage, but it features reprints of some of most outrageous pages from Cosmo 1970s and 1980s!  Super for fashion students and fashion history nuts! 100% perfect condition!

And now for the gents... Really wonderful book, and 100% perfect condition!

Book Talk interview: Steve Pottinger

Picture
Miss Gish is really proud to present her interview with poet and publisher Steve Pottinger, founder of Ignite Books. Steve Pottinger has given us some great tips about indie publishing and has even typeset our first novel, I Am a Muse!
You will find the interview HERE... We promise, it's a great read! There are also a couple of videos to watch! Enjoy...

And remember, on the same page, if you scroll down, you will find the cracking interview we did last month with the fabulous Jordan Reyne!
(You can also read the interview HERE)

Carya Gish's new series of author interviews!

Picture
Carya Gish has started a series of author/publishers interviews on her website. She is thrilled to present to you the first in the series called "Book Talk". And what a way to get started! An in-depth interview with the very talented Jordan Reyne, whose first novel, Remembering The Dead, is out now.
What began as a "Book talk" became something else altogether. Really, really interesting.
Subjectivity in the way we interpret history - very fitting with the current debate surrounding WW1 "celebrations" - as well as philosophy, music, the fluidity of language(s), writing, self-publishing, storytelling, surviving...
It's all in there and more.
Read Jordan Reyne's interview HERE.
