Arcane Publishing will be winding down its activity now as we prepare for four months of hibernation as we raise funds for all our 2022/2023 projects, including the launch of our online bookshop and the publication of our third novel The Right Place.
We hope to be able to post a picture or two once a week (or more realistically fortnightly) if we manage to find time to get out in nature... We hope to be back fully from 20th December 2021. Matt ArtPix will be very active though throughout the autumn and has some exciting events in the calendar, so keep an eye on his Facebook page! We were back in Langport on Saturday for the Langport Vintage Market, still in The Undercroft, next to the gorgrous shop Kim Woods Vintage!
We really put on a show with a great stock of books, vintage items. This time, Matt ArtPix was also showing his collage art, which he makes using his own photos and vintage images taken from his personal collection of vintage magazines and books... A brilliant addition to the stall! Matt has been making these artworks for many years now, and these artworks are part of the latest series all made in Dorset! This was the last market of 2021 for Arcane Publishing, as we prepare to spend four months raising funds for the development of the Arcane online bookshop and the printing costs of The Right Place, which we hope to publish in September 2023. Matt ArtPix will keep trading at markets if the weather and the Covid crisis allow... We will keep posting on here and on our Instagram, Facebook and Twitter accounts hopefully once a week to keep things going until we are fully back in business! This Saturday, we will be back with MattArtPix at the Langport Vintage Market.
This will probably be the last market of the year for Arcane, but Matt will carry on throughout the Autumn and Winter (weather and Covid permitting...) We will have a completely different stock this time: a few big coffee table books about Liberty design, William Morris, Lalique, Barbara Hepworth and more... We will also have a box full of treasures: French antique books, Film magazines and Edwardian-era illustrated stories, vintage adventure magazines, a few lovely children's books and loads of small vintage booklets about travelling, holidays, gardening, cooking... See below for a few pictures! Yesterday, the ArtPix/Arcane team went to our unit at The Customs House in West Bay, Dorset, to add yet some more items for our customers! The place has been buzzing this summer... May this continue into the autumn, and let's hope there will never be another lockdown again! If you are in West Dorset and find yourself in West Bay, please visit our unit, it's on the second floor! We've got art, books, retro football, vintage and antique items... Holiday reading from the Arcane shelves! Nature writing, thrillers, memoirs, historical novels, classic children's literature... Including some very low priced book bundles! There is something for everyone... We've got a few coffee table books available in our unit: Art, design, history, cinema...
8/5/2021 Bette Davis, Hollywood rebelSo someone somewhere must have decided that Bette Davis was ok and could be "sold" to modern mainstream audiences! Indeed, The BFI in London even has a BETTE DAVIS SEASON! We at Arcane Publishing have been fans of classic cinema for decades and always have a great stock of books and ephemera from and about the glamorous Golden age of Hollywood (and even earlier all the way back to when Hollywood didn't even exist!). In our early years as a book trader, we used to sell quite a lot of magazines and books about all those fabulous films and stars, but over the past few years, we have noticed that interest in those fascinating movies has been waning, which is a incredible shame. At Arcane HQ, we still enjoy watching those unmatched cinematic treasures! It's always good to see a resurgence in interest in anything related to the Golden Age of Hollywood, and we've been looking for pictures and mentions of Bette Davis in our current stock.
Anne Billson's tribute to the most iconic on-screen pairing in Hollywood, "Screen Lovers", is full of beautiful images...
This book is available to buy from us at £10 +P&P. Please DM us on Facebook or Twitter @ArcanePub. On Saturday, the ArtPix/Arcane team traded at The Langport Vintage Market. Arcane was supposed to have one small corner of a table on Matt ArtPix's stand, but in the end, we were incredibly lucky and were given even more space as we were the only traders in The Undercroft! So Arcane was able to spread out a bit... We had chosen to book an undercover space (what with the unstable British summer weather) and we were soooo wise to do so! We had quite virulent rain showers regularly throughout the day, but we smugly stayed all dry and cosy... The Undercroft, like many of the buildings around this very interesting town, is full of history. It is part of the town hall and used to be where the market was held. This is also where the wonderful Kim Woods Vintage shop is located, and I would highly recommend it: it is beautifully curated and is full to the brim with treasures and unusual antiques... Let's have a sneak peek at our stall! First, here's the Arcane section! We also had a few boxes of our stock of 50p vintage books! Our display was very colourful, as per usual! We will be adding a few items to our Facebook marketplace list in the next few days, so please do go and have a look!
A quick reminder that the Arcane online bookshop will launch in 2022... and we are still adding new books to the Arcane shelves in Matt ArtPix's unit at The Customs House in West Bay, Dorset! |
