9/26/2014 New poster!Coming to a stall near you! Check out the events we will be appearing at HERE.
Thank you Matt ArtPix for the design! 9/22/2014 New September stock! So the team is back from beautiful Dorset and we have soooo much to do! Of course, making sure that The Book of Thoth is published on time for our November fairs - fingers crossed - is our number 1 priority, but we are also preparing the exciting new stock we got on our holiday! Here's a sample of the volumes you will find on our stall this autumn... We have definitively concentrated on Fashion and Glamour. We also got some rather fab classic cinema items which we will post here at a later date! (a gentle reminder: we do not sell books online, only on our stall!) I am thrilled to have found this book. It is in perfect condition, and inside is a riot of fashion and art. This is the book published on the occasion of the exhibition "The Warhol Look: Glamour, Style, Fashion" that toured New York (Nov 1997-Jan 1998), Toronto (Feb-May 1998), London (May-Aug 1998), Marseilles (Sept-Nov 1998), Sydney (Dec 1998-March 1999) and ended at the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh in Spring 1999. It is a very special book and is as new! We will post more stock news on here soon!
8/28/2014 The Book of Thoth... coming soon! The second proofs of The Book of Thoth have landed on Miss Gish's desk and will be checked in the forthcoming days. Things are looking really good!
We have added a cast of characters and a lovely map of Whitemoor Hall so readers can find their way around the estate. Also, in the story, Dimitri, one of the main characters, spends his time drawing maps of the house; we thought it would be a rather nice touch to add our own map to the book! 8/22/2014 Terror and WonderThe British Library has an exhibition about Gothic Literature on from 6th October to 20th January 2015, Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination.
Our second novel, The Book of Thoth, is a Gothic Novel, and will be published this autumn... Perfect timing, we say! And of course, we will go... Miss Gish is now starting work on Book 3, The Right Place, set in Dorset. Read her blog about it HERE!
We have a draft publishing schedule for the book, but lack of funds might mean that this will have to be amended. As it stands, we are aiming for a pub date of November 2017 (!). This is the optimistic schedule, by the way. Lack of funds might force us to change this on the way. On our short break over the weekend, we found the perfect display background for the promotion of The Book of Thoth. Apparently, it does genuinely come from Egypt (i.e probably a tourist market around sharm el-sheikh)! But we were on the lookout for something that would spice up our stall when we get the printed copies back from the printers, and this looked like the ticket. So it's coming to a stall near you this autumn! 7/28/2014 Back to Old Spitalfields - more stock! So this Saturday, Arcane Publishing will be back in London at So Vintage London, Old Spitalfields market! Our stock will be a bit different this time: we have a few new things in stock (see our previous blog) and we are presenting a few items from our French language stock! Ennio Morricone original movie scores, French import, 70s A Clockwork Orange, French "Orange mecanique" , 1972 A small selection of French books: Jean Genet's classics "The Balcony" and "Our Lady of the Flowers", a book by French fantasy/sci-fi writer Serge Brussolo and a "celebrity action" novel from the 1990s. Do you like comics? We'll bring a few French vintage ones on Saturday! We have one Asterix from 1980... Some gorgeous Olivier Rameau comics (1984-1985), full of wonderful adventures made of dreams, fantastical characters and poetry. A real treat! Love going to gigs? Then read the hilarious "L'Enfer des Concerts", a comic about gig-going and popular culture in 1999! Tempted? We have more surprises in stock which we will bring with us!
See you at Old Spitalfields market this Saturday 2nd August! 7/21/2014 The Book of Thoth is on schedule!Yesterday, Matt ArtPix finished the typesetting of The Book of Thoth. Now it's Miss Gish's turn to read through and make a few corrections and adjustments. Matt ArtPix will now finish off the cover design and we hope to have everything ready to go to the printers around 25th September after our much deserved holiday! We are on schedule, and it is getting very exciting! The book looks terrific!
7/14/2014 Dragnet at Village Green festival reportCarya Gish has just posted a blog about the Dragnet tent at this year's Village Green festival in Southend-on-Sea. There are loads of pictures!
Read it HERE. 7/9/2014 New stock: something different...*Please note: the vinyls are not available to buy online. We only sell them at events! A new, very special item has now been added to our stock.
If you have a child in love with wonderful stories, this is one for you! This is the story "L'Oiseau du Nord et l'Oiseau du Sud" / "The Snow Bird and the Sun Bird" narrated by Grace Kelly of Monaco! This is a bilingual vinyl from 1970, recorded by Grace of Monaco, formerly movie star Grace Kelly in two languages, French and English. There is also the illustrated book of the story in both languages; the images are by prolific Belgian artist Nadine Forster (linked article is in French). This comes from Miss Gish's personal collection. As a child, she already dreamt of becoming a writer and adored books and stories, and she has dozens of them, unfortunately mostly in French... This is a genuinely lovely item that will enchant any story-loving child and adult! Find it on our stall at our next market, So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market on 2nd August! Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing had a great day at Old Spitalfields market on Saturday, our first one in this London location.
The logistics were suprisingly easy to work out: take A13, arrive. There was a handy car park round the corner, and our stalls were spacious, with loads of leg room and freedom of movement around the space. Old Spitalfields is a stimulating environment to trade in and we will be back on August 2nd for another So Vintage London event with a different layout for the stalls and slightly different stocks - it's important to always refresh and try new things out! We are already working on it! We hope to trade regularly at Old Spitalfields in the future, watch this space... Here are a few pictures of the day! |
