 As mentioned before, we have had to "close" (or rather, "pause") our online Arcane Shop because of changes to the Paypal/Big Cartel processing system. We need to open a "proper" business bank account before we can go further with the development of our online shop - we wish to add our wonderful stock of vintage, rare and pre-loved books to the shop so they can reach a wider audience! But we wanted to put some items online anyway as we have had to cancel all the wonderful events we were going to attend in the spring/summer season (or rather, they have been cancelled...) Over the next few weeks, we are going to post a few items from our stock - books and ephemera - on this website and also on Facebook and Twitter. If you wished to get a copy, please DM us on Twitter or Facebook, stating which book(s) you wish to purchase! We are going to start with our own books, Miss Gish's published novels. These can be purchased by several people as we have quite a big stock. Then we will move on to individual pre-loved books - for these, it will be first come-first served, as we only have one copy of each! Unfortunately, we won't be able to do free P&P for vintage, rare and pre-loved books...

4/25/2020 Cinema and pin-up magazines...We have a small selection of rare magazines for sale here at Arcane Towers. Several years ago, there was a big "Burlesque" and "Pin-up" scene - this has now dwindled and is not seen as cool anymore, although the absolute Burlesque Queen, the fabulous Dita Von Teese, is still very much active (and we have two of her books in our stock, Your Beauty Mark as well as Burlesque and The Art of the Tease) New Burlesque was inspired by the early years Pin-ups... And we have in stock some rare US original Pin-up magazines! Real Screen Fun, November 1935...

Much more stylish and definitely not going with the more "naughty" Pin-up style of photographs is another super-rare US magazine (British edition!), Motion Picture/Movie Classic from June 1937.     What I really love about vintage magazine is the frankness of their ads. To us, they often appear to be breathtakingly rude! At least, they do encourage their prospective customers to take responsibility for their own success! 
And finally, we have a beautiful copy of The New Movie Album, another item from the US, from April 1931. Another classy read!      4/13/2020 Woman's own magazines... In stock, we do have a few gorgeous women's magazines. Above is what is probably my favourite magazine cover ever... Look at the rich colour of that dress! At Arcane HQ, we have just started to have a good look at our stock to be ready for the online shop we hope to launch at the end of 2020 or later early 2021 (this will depend on how the current situation evolves, unfortunately...) We do have a lot of classic cinema-related stock: some truly gorgeous books and also ephemera... Ephemera is what we'll be looking at in the next few days, and we will be posting about it on here... So above, you will find a nice selection of Picturegoer magazines from the 1940s and 50s. We also have some very nice copies of Picture Show magazine, again from the same era... Don't you think this cover of Veronica Lake and Alan Ladd is just pure Noir?   4/6/2020 Spies and books... Here at Arcane Towers, we are big cinema buffs (especially classic films!) and therefore, we have really enjoyed the second series of Mark Kermodes's Secret of cinema (Find the programme's page HERE). The third episode was about Spy Movies, featuring the thrilling North by Northwest by one of our favourite directors Alfred Hitchcock, and also the inimitable James Bond franchise (do we admit that we prefer the Sean Connery and Roger Moore ones?) Our love of cinema is reflected in our stock and we have dozens of movie-related pre-loved books which we hope to be able to sell in our new online shop by the end of the year. One of our best finds this year has been the gorgeous James Bond movie posters, featuring fabulous artwork from around the world. This is a book which is not easy to find, and we've got one! :-)
