8/22/2014 Terror and WonderThe British Library has an exhibition about Gothic Literature on from 6th October to 20th January 2015, Terror and Wonder: The Gothic Imagination.
Our second novel, The Book of Thoth, is a Gothic Novel, and will be published this autumn... Perfect timing, we say! And of course, we will go... Miss Gish is now starting work on Book 3, The Right Place, set in Dorset. Read her blog about it HERE!
We have a draft publishing schedule for the book, but lack of funds might mean that this will have to be amended. As it stands, we are aiming for a pub date of November 2017 (!). This is the optimistic schedule, by the way. Lack of funds might force us to change this on the way. On our short break over the weekend, we found the perfect display background for the promotion of The Book of Thoth. Apparently, it does genuinely come from Egypt (i.e probably a tourist market around sharm el-sheikh)! But we were on the lookout for something that would spice up our stall when we get the printed copies back from the printers, and this looked like the ticket. So it's coming to a stall near you this autumn! 8/7/2014 The Book of Thoth - slight delayA few posts back, we optimistically stated that The Book of Thoth was on track... Well, it's not anymore... Life's got in the way as it usually does.
Miss Gish is still doing some corrections and slight amendments to the first typeset proofs, and everything will have to be checked before it goes back to Matt ArtPix for the second round of proofs. Everyone at Arcane Towers deserves a break, and that's just what we are going to do soon... We were planning on getting everything ready to go to the printers before our fortnight in Dorset, and we can see now that this is not going to happen... We do not want to rush things, because we want to put out the best book we can with our limited means. We hope that we will have the hard copies of the book with us by early November, hopefully on time for the So Vintage London market at Old Spitalfields in November and the Alexandra Palace Antiques and collectors fair in December. We are also thinking about increasing our presence at Old Spitalfields, perhaps with a monthly double stall at So Vintage London from next year and then from this autumn (on time to catch the Xmas shopping crowd!) maybe a weekly single stall on Wednesdays. We might as well develop our online bookshop from early next year - We will keep you posted... Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix are delighted to announce that they will be returning to the Alexandra Palace Antiques and collectors fair at the iconic London building on Sunday 7th December 2014! The fair has new organisers, International Antiques & Collectors Fairs Ltd who will be working on improving the event even further.
We had a great time last year at Ally Pally (read Miss Gish's blog about it HERE). We hope to have our freshly printed copies of The Book of Thoth on sale there! 7/23/2014 New stock in!We got some new stock at the weekend, and we will be taking a few items to the So Vintage London market at Old Spitalfields on 2nd August. First up is a fantastic "exterior and interior" book, mixing architecture, interior design and lifestyle: "The House Book" (1978 edition) by the iconic designer and founder of Habitat, Terence Conran. A must for all interior design nuts in love with the 1970s! For lovers of 1960s music, we have a book telling you all about the 100 great albums of the decade... We have at least two of them and they will be on our stall! (we might have a few more, we'll check!). If you like sci-fi novels, we have come across some cool paperbacks!
The Ganymede Takeover by iconic sci-fi writer Philip K.Dick (with Ray Nelson), 1967 edition. Windhaven by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin (with Lisa Tuttle), 1988, 1st VGSF edition. Star Winds by Barrington J. Bayley (1978, 1st printing) 7/21/2014 The Book of Thoth is on schedule!Yesterday, Matt ArtPix finished the typesetting of The Book of Thoth. Now it's Miss Gish's turn to read through and make a few corrections and adjustments. Matt ArtPix will now finish off the cover design and we hope to have everything ready to go to the printers around 25th September after our much deserved holiday! We are on schedule, and it is getting very exciting! The book looks terrific!
Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing had a great day at Old Spitalfields market on Saturday, our first one in this London location.
The logistics were suprisingly easy to work out: take A13, arrive. There was a handy car park round the corner, and our stalls were spacious, with loads of leg room and freedom of movement around the space. Old Spitalfields is a stimulating environment to trade in and we will be back on August 2nd for another So Vintage London event with a different layout for the stalls and slightly different stocks - it's important to always refresh and try new things out! We are already working on it! We hope to trade regularly at Old Spitalfields in the future, watch this space... Here are a few pictures of the day! 5/21/2014 The Right PlaceWe have now sorted our publishing schedule - and budget - for The Right Place, our third novel. The provisional pub date is November 2017. It looks like a long way, but it takes a lot of time and hard work to get a novel published... We have worked out all the crucial stages...
5/8/2014 Stuff!Things are happening and we hope to be able to share a few exciting things with you on here in the near future... We are just waiting for the post to be delivered and things to get confirmed... Bear with us!
In the meantime, head to Carya Gish's new blog to read about what's happening with The Book of Thoth manuscript, Book 3, The Right Place, and about what Steve Pottinger, who has typset I Am a Muse for us, has been up to! 4/24/2014 Book number five: some fresh ideas...Carya Gish has just had an idea for Book number 5! Head to her website to read all about it! (and yes, the The Hound of the Baskervilles cover is related to the blog!)
