Miss Gish is now starting work on Book 3, The Right Place, set in Dorset. Read her blog about it HERE!
We have a draft publishing schedule for the book, but lack of funds might mean that this will have to be amended. As it stands, we are aiming for a pub date of November 2017 (!). This is the optimistic schedule, by the way. Lack of funds might force us to change this on the way. On our short break over the weekend, we found the perfect display background for the promotion of The Book of Thoth. Apparently, it does genuinely come from Egypt (i.e probably a tourist market around sharm el-sheikh)! But we were on the lookout for something that would spice up our stall when we get the printed copies back from the printers, and this looked like the ticket. So it's coming to a stall near you this autumn! 8/3/2014 Old SpitalfieldsArcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix had a great day at So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market yesterday. The truth is that this is probably our favourite market!
The logistics are incredibly easy (get into car/A13/arrive), you get a buzz the whole day because you are in the middle of that fabulous city that is London. Our pitch was fantastic, with a lot of space to get creative with our tables and create a colourful and attractive stall. We had changed the layout of the stalls and we had tweaked our stock - and we had a lot of interest, people really looked and browsed and even asked us when we'd be back, which is fantastic. Unfortunately, we cannot post any pictures of the day as WE HAD FORGOTTEN OUR CAMERA! But trust us, the stalls looked fab. I now need to stock up on more books about vintage fashion and classic icons - my "Marilyn Monroe in fashion" book lasted less than an hour on the stall! We hope to be back at Old Spitalfields market on November 1st (we booked some holidays and a local event ages ago for September and October!). But Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing have been discussing the possibility of getting a monthly slot at Old Spitalfields in order to build up an audience/custom from 2015. Watch this space! 7/21/2014 The Book of Thoth is on schedule!Yesterday, Matt ArtPix finished the typesetting of The Book of Thoth. Now it's Miss Gish's turn to read through and make a few corrections and adjustments. Matt ArtPix will now finish off the cover design and we hope to have everything ready to go to the printers around 25th September after our much deserved holiday! We are on schedule, and it is getting very exciting! The book looks terrific!
6/11/2014 Alchemical symbolsApparently, the French town where Miss Gish grew up was a big centre for alchemy ! This series of intriguing symbols are located in a cul-de-sac named "l'impasse du chat" (the cat's cul-de-sac).
Sign 3 shows John Dee's Monas Hieroglyphica, which features in our second novel, The Book of Thoth. 6/7/2014 Book Talk interview: Steve PottingerMiss Gish is really proud to present her interview with poet and publisher Steve Pottinger, founder of Ignite Books. Steve Pottinger has given us some great tips about indie publishing and has even typeset our first novel, I Am a Muse!
You will find the interview HERE... We promise, it's a great read! There are also a couple of videos to watch! Enjoy... And remember, on the same page, if you scroll down, you will find the cracking interview we did last month with the fabulous Jordan Reyne! (You can also read the interview HERE) 5/21/2014 The Right PlaceWe have now sorted our publishing schedule - and budget - for The Right Place, our third novel. The provisional pub date is November 2017. It looks like a long way, but it takes a lot of time and hard work to get a novel published... We have worked out all the crucial stages...
Carya Gish has started a series of author/publishers interviews on her website. She is thrilled to present to you the first in the series called "Book Talk". And what a way to get started! An in-depth interview with the very talented Jordan Reyne, whose first novel, Remembering The Dead, is out now.
What began as a "Book talk" became something else altogether. Really, really interesting. Subjectivity in the way we interpret history - very fitting with the current debate surrounding WW1 "celebrations" - as well as philosophy, music, the fluidity of language(s), writing, self-publishing, storytelling, surviving... It's all in there and more. Read Jordan Reyne's interview HERE. Arcane Publishing author Carya Gish and designer Matt ArtPix both appear in the brand new issue of V&OAK magazine (Vintage and One of a Kind).
There is a small feature about Matt ArtPix and a whole page review of I Am a Muse! Read Carya Gish's blog about the review HERE. There are loads of interesting features in the magazine and everything is high quality and elegant... V&OAK is distributed to most newsagents in Central London and is also available in Harrods and Selfridges! There are more stockists around the country; for the comprehensive list of stockists, go HERE. To buy V&OAK online, go HERE.
