If you have been following this blog regularly, then you know that we opened a unit at The Customs House in West Bay, Dorset, last August. We have worked really hard to make it look attractive, interesting and unique and we were looking forward to moving to Dorset this spring to be closer to West Bay. Living a few miles away would enable us to be more creative with the space and try new things out. Unfortunately, two months into the purchasing process of a lovely house 5 mn from Chesil Beach, we had to stop everything for various reasons... Let's say that some sellers are far from honest... We were going to pause for a few weeks and give ourselves some thinking time when Matt saw a gorgeous property in the same area, even bigger and ever closer to the sea (but requiring some work...)! So last Saturday, we jumped in the car to do the journey to Dorset and back to Essex within the day (!). Anyway. The trip was a good opportunity to go back to our unit at The Customs House in West Bay. Sales are picking up after a "challenging" winter season, but it's the way things are in that part of the world. If we managed to move to the area then we would make a few adjustments and develop the business properly to make it a "all year round" one... We have lots of ideas, including opening an online shop as a complement to the "Real World" space in Dorset to sell our rarest and most expensive items (we have a lot of those...). So if you are in the area, go and visit our unit on the second floor! You will find some interesting antiques and vintage items, Matt ArtPix's colourful designs including his very successful "Retro Football" range, some great ephemera and some carefully hand-picked second-hand books from Arcane Publishing! On the Arcane shelves you will also find some fantastic new fiction and poetry published by indie imprints Arcane Publishing, Ignite Books and November 10th Records! And if you are into food, there is a new foodie restaurant, Sins at the Bay, at The Customs House! 4/17/2016 Artists in Love...Tomorrow, a new 10-part series titles Artists in Love starts on Sky Arts; it will feature painters, musicians, dancers, actors and writers and their muses. Each episode will explore the story and relationship of an artist and their muse (read the write up HERE).
The central theme of Miss Gish's first novel I Am a Muse, published by Arcane Publishing, is exactly that: an exploration of the intense and all-consuming relationship of an artist and his muse! 4/8/2016 Moving on...So after two intense months and loads of money spent lining the pockets of various surveyors, solicitors and estate agencies, we are sorry to say that Arcane's move to Dorset is not going to happen any time soon, and we will remain based in the South East for the time being... We had found a gorgeous house which was everything we wanted and would have made a perfect HQ for our operations but it was a very rotten apple indeed. So we are keeping our base in "sunny Southend" and moving on... This episode has stunted our creativity and it is going to take a while to get back into the swing of things. So as we do not have any book news for you or any cultural blog to share on Miss Gish's website, we have a few links, etc. for you instead. Firstly, you will find superb pictures of our London: Winter Tales event on photographer Steve Kenny's website HERE. You can also download the interview booklet featuring all the artists who appeared at the event HERE. Hi-Reciprocity's Simon Satori has written a delightful review of the evening, and it is with immense pleasure that we are sharing it with you below. "This review is purely for my own lousy memory and is not meant as a serious critique of the night or its individual acts; just a few observations and opinions. I may even have the running order slightly wrong but in summary, I loved it! It ran shockingly smoothly for a nine act show and all the work behind the scenes seemed organized, friendly and professional. 4/5/2016 A little break...Unfortunately, we haven't been able to sort out the issues we have been dealing with recently and have to take a break from social media/bloggin/etc.
Please do have a look around our website where you will find more info about Miss Gish's books, our unit at The Customs House in West Bay, Dorset, and our forthcoming releases. Miss Gish's website has all the info you need too plus some cultural blogs and writer interviews! We will be back as soon as possible! |
