11/25/2014 First review for The Book of Thoth! The first review of Miss Gish's second novel, The Book of Thoth, is in!
And I love it, because it makes it sound a bit like Wilkie Collins's The Moonstone, which is one of the inspirations behind the novel. On Saturday 13th December, Miss Gish will be reading an extract of her first novel I Am a Muse, at WOA Gallery in Westcliff-on-Sea.
I Am a Muse is about art and inspiration, and an art gallery will therefore be the perfect venue for the reading! There will be a few copies of I Am a Muse and The Book of Thoth for sale at the event! Yesterday, The Arts Council launched a new journal/magazine to emphasize the importance of the arts and culture in society, Create.
About time, I say, especially after Education Secretary Nicky Morgan's recent comments about the arts and humanities. "Create is a new journal that aims to stimulate discussion about the true value of art and culture to our society." The quote above is taken from the first issue, which I will be reading over the next few weeks. Go HERE to read the first issue of Create, and start the debate! The Book of Thoth and I Am a Muse are now available to purchase from our fab new local bookshop, The Bookshop Experience. They are located at 307 London Road, Westcliff-on-Sea. The shop is a real treasure trove. They describe themselves as "Purveyors of obscure and obsolete media, rare and quirky new and old books and records."
They will soon start organising events too! 11/13/2014 0 Comments Purchasing our books, new options! We have changed our online shop so people outside Europe can choose a quicker (but more expensive) way to get their books!
If you are in the UK and Europe or if you live outside Europe and don't mind waiting nine weeks before you receive the books, choose the "I Am a Muse" or "The Book of Thoth" UK, Europe and International economy options. If you are outside Europe and want to pay a bit more postage and package to get the books faster than by Int economy, choose the "I Am a Muse" and "The Book of Thoth" International standard options. 11/10/2014 1 Comment Monica's Fair photosSo The Book of Thoth had its first outing last Saturday at Monica's Vintage Fair in Gravesend. You should have seen the venue (a state-of-the-art school), such a vast space! And the quality of the stalls was exceptional. So many amazing items - clothes, antiques, etc.
We didn't have a full stall this time, but we managed to squeeze in some items from our most glamorous stock! Unfortunately, as a frugal writer/publisher, I really have to count the pennies these days and therefore didn't really have a good look at the stalls. Our next event is the fantastic Alexandra Palace Antiques and Collectors Fair at Ally Pally on Sunday 7th December! The event has just been taken over by the IACF and should be amazing. And of course, the Pop-Up Vintage Fair will be there as well! There is a 241 offer for people who wish to visit on the day, so register HERE if you'd like to come down and save a bit on the entrance fee! As for 2015, there might be quite a few exciting developments and a regular presence in London for us... Decisions, decisions... We'll keep you posted of course! 11/6/2014 0 Comments Event alert! This Saturday! This Saturday 8th November, Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix will be in Kent! In Gravesend, to be precise. We have never been there before! The venue looks fantastic and the attendance should be good!
We are really excited as it will be the first outing for our still-warm-from-the-press second publication, The Book of Thoth. We will also sell copies of I Am a Muse and we will have a great selection of second-hand books for adults and children! We will have mainly cinema and fashion books, all for the glamour of it all! And of course, we will have lovely chokers and pendant from our guest artist, Sabine T Handmade! 11/5/2014 0 Comments The Book of Thoth has landed! After three years of hard work, finally, The Book of Thoth is here with us at Arcane Towers!
It looks great thanks to Matt ArtPix's design and typesetting skills. It will be available to buy at a special pre-publication price of £12 from us at events and from next week online until its official publication date of 31st January 2015. At events, people will also get a free handmade 1920s Dazzling Decades card by Matt ArtPix! 11/3/2014 1 Comment The Right Place page updateMiss Gish has just updated the page for her third Novel, The Right Place.
She has added loads more pictures of Abbotsbury and St Catherine's chapel, added a playlist of favourite tracks that reflect the themes and atmosphere of the novel, and uploaded a few more examples of Sam Cannon's work - Sam will be doing the cover artwork. We really want to give a multi-dimension to this book and turn it into a visual and aural experience as well as a literary one. Arcane Publishing had a great day at So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market on Saturday. We love being there, it is such a buzzing place!
Our double stall had a lot of interest. Matt ArtPix's stall was his best ever so far, full of colourful designs and interesting antiques and vintage items! Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix are discussing the possibility of having a stall EVERY MONTH at Old Spitalfields in order to have a regular presence in London. We have loads of ideas and an ever-increasing and changing stock! |
