So this Saturday 4th October, it's The Southend Book and Arts Fair at The Forum, the new state-of-the-art library in Southend. Arcane Publishing will be there with designer and artist (also Arcane's very own designer and typesetter!) Matt ArtPix who will also have a table to show off his colourful designs! The fair is part of The Forum's 1st anniversary celebrations, so we hope that a lot of people will attend. Of course, we will be adapting our stock for the day for the event, and here's a sneak preview of what we will have on our stall for you: We will have copies of Carya Gish's first novel, I Am a Muse. Please go to the PRESS PAGE to read reviews and see if you're tempted! We will sell the books at our special event price of £6 (instead of £7.99). We will be promoting our next book, out very soon, The Book of Thoth. We will have a few print outs with an extract and a few of the prelims: cast of characters, map of the estate, etc. to show what the content of the book will look like. We are very proud of Matt ArtPix's design and typesetting work for the book! We will also have 15 of the 21-volume series "The Enchanted World", published in 1985 by Time-Life. These are absolutely gorgeous books which I would keep if I had room for them! We will sell them at a discounted price at the fair! Below is the 1985 advert for the books with the one and only Vincent Price! Also, we will bring a nice little selection of books for children and young people which we will be selling at very reasonable prices! We strongly believe that children should be encouraged to read - and fall in love with reading! - as early as possible, and our stock is very varied and attractive! And of course, a selection of our fabulous fashion, cinema and entertainment stock! We have some more events coming up!
1st November: Old Spitalfields Market, London 8th November: Gravesent, Kent 7th December: Alexandra Palace, London Please check our EVENTS PAGE for more details.

9/1/2014 New stock! 60s comicsI got my hands on 10 great comics from the True Life Library (from 1962 to 1965). They are quite interesting as they are full of the contradictions of the era. The heroines are "gutsy" young women ready for an adventure. BUT they ALL end like this (without exception): So for example, Merion The Mod is a member of that dangerous teenage gang, the mods. A journalist tries to befriend the group to understand what exactly is a teenager and make a headline-grabbing TV documentary about that mysterious beast, the teenager... Merion is the hard-as-nails, dancing, drinking, motorcycle-riding (well, riding pillion at least) female mod... But she weakens on the way... And the moralistic ending finally comes! The wild teenage girl agrees to be tamed! Eeek! Of course, any adventurous girl out there knows that some essentials for a great adventures are: Some weird ads are scattered around the place at odd places within the narrative: And of course, some awesome pictures of the boybands of the time! My favourites are The Undertakers! Don't they look HOT? These comics will be for sale on our stall at our autumn events!
8/3/2014 Old SpitalfieldsArcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix had a great day at So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market yesterday. The truth is that this is probably our favourite market!
The logistics are incredibly easy (get into car/A13/arrive), you get a buzz the whole day because you are in the middle of that fabulous city that is London. Our pitch was fantastic, with a lot of space to get creative with our tables and create a colourful and attractive stall. We had changed the layout of the stalls and we had tweaked our stock - and we had a lot of interest, people really looked and browsed and even asked us when we'd be back, which is fantastic. Unfortunately, we cannot post any pictures of the day as WE HAD FORGOTTEN OUR CAMERA! But trust us, the stalls looked fab. I now need to stock up on more books about vintage fashion and classic icons - my "Marilyn Monroe in fashion" book lasted less than an hour on the stall! We hope to be back at Old Spitalfields market on November 1st (we booked some holidays and a local event ages ago for September and October!). But Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing have been discussing the possibility of getting a monthly slot at Old Spitalfields in order to build up an audience/custom from 2015. Watch this space! Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix are delighted to announce that they will be returning to the Alexandra Palace Antiques and collectors fair at the iconic London building on Sunday 7th December 2014! The fair has new organisers, International Antiques & Collectors Fairs Ltd who will be working on improving the event even further.
We had a great time last year at Ally Pally (read Miss Gish's blog about it HERE). We hope to have our freshly printed copies of The Book of Thoth on sale there! 7/28/2014 Back to Old Spitalfields - more stock! So this Saturday, Arcane Publishing will be back in London at So Vintage London, Old Spitalfields market! Our stock will be a bit different this time: we have a few new things in stock (see our previous blog) and we are presenting a few items from our French language stock! Ennio Morricone original movie scores, French import, 70s A Clockwork Orange, French "Orange mecanique" , 1972 A small selection of French books: Jean Genet's classics "The Balcony" and "Our Lady of the Flowers", a book by French fantasy/sci-fi writer Serge Brussolo and a "celebrity action" novel from the 1990s. Do you like comics? We'll bring a few French vintage ones on Saturday! We have one Asterix from 1980... Some gorgeous Olivier Rameau comics (1984-1985), full of wonderful adventures made of dreams, fantastical characters and poetry. A real treat! Love going to gigs? Then read the hilarious "L'Enfer des Concerts", a comic about gig-going and popular culture in 1999! Tempted? We have more surprises in stock which we will bring with us!
See you at Old Spitalfields market this Saturday 2nd August! 7/23/2014 New stock in!We got some new stock at the weekend, and we will be taking a few items to the So Vintage London market at Old Spitalfields on 2nd August. First up is a fantastic "exterior and interior" book, mixing architecture, interior design and lifestyle: "The House Book" (1978 edition) by the iconic designer and founder of Habitat, Terence Conran. A must for all interior design nuts in love with the 1970s! For lovers of 1960s music, we have a book telling you all about the 100 great albums of the decade... We have at least two of them and they will be on our stall! (we might have a few more, we'll check!). If you like sci-fi novels, we have come across some cool paperbacks!
The Ganymede Takeover by iconic sci-fi writer Philip K.Dick (with Ray Nelson), 1967 edition. Windhaven by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin (with Lisa Tuttle), 1988, 1st VGSF edition. Star Winds by Barrington J. Bayley (1978, 1st printing) 7/9/2014 New stock: something different...*Please note: the vinyls are not available to buy online. We only sell them at events! A new, very special item has now been added to our stock.
If you have a child in love with wonderful stories, this is one for you! This is the story "L'Oiseau du Nord et l'Oiseau du Sud" / "The Snow Bird and the Sun Bird" narrated by Grace Kelly of Monaco! This is a bilingual vinyl from 1970, recorded by Grace of Monaco, formerly movie star Grace Kelly in two languages, French and English. There is also the illustrated book of the story in both languages; the images are by prolific Belgian artist Nadine Forster (linked article is in French). This comes from Miss Gish's personal collection. As a child, she already dreamt of becoming a writer and adored books and stories, and she has dozens of them, unfortunately mostly in French... This is a genuinely lovely item that will enchant any story-loving child and adult! Find it on our stall at our next market, So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market on 2nd August! Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing had a great day at Old Spitalfields market on Saturday, our first one in this London location.
The logistics were suprisingly easy to work out: take A13, arrive. There was a handy car park round the corner, and our stalls were spacious, with loads of leg room and freedom of movement around the space. Old Spitalfields is a stimulating environment to trade in and we will be back on August 2nd for another So Vintage London event with a different layout for the stalls and slightly different stocks - it's important to always refresh and try new things out! We are already working on it! We hope to trade regularly at Old Spitalfields in the future, watch this space... Here are a few pictures of the day! Busy weekend here...
