New stock! 60s comics

Picture
I got my hands on 10 great comics from the True Life  Library (from 1962 to 1965). They are quite interesting as they are full of the contradictions of the era. The heroines are "gutsy" young women ready for an adventure. BUT they ALL end like this (without exception):
Picture
So for example, Merion The Mod is a member of that dangerous teenage gang, the mods. A journalist tries to befriend the group to understand what exactly is a teenager and make a headline-grabbing TV  documentary about that mysterious beast, the teenager...
Merion is the hard-as-nails, dancing, drinking, motorcycle-riding (well, riding pillion at least) female mod...

But she weakens on the way...

And the moralistic ending finally comes! The wild teenage girl agrees to be tamed! Eeek!
Picture
Of course, any adventurous girl out there knows that some essentials for a great adventures are:
Some weird ads are scattered around the place at odd places within the narrative:

And of course, some awesome pictures of the boybands of the time! My favourites are The Undertakers!  Don't they look HOT?
These comics will be for sale on our stall at our autumn events!

The Book of Thoth... coming soon!

Picture
The second proofs of The Book of Thoth have landed on Miss Gish's desk and will be checked in the forthcoming days. Things are looking really good!
We have added a cast of characters and a lovely map of Whitemoor Hall so readers can find their way around the estate. Also, in the story, Dimitri, one of the main characters, spends his time drawing maps of the house; we thought it would be a rather nice touch to add our own map to the book!

Meet the cast!

Next event! Southend Book and Arts fair

Picture
Here's the official  poster for the next event Arcane Publishing will be attending: The Southend Book and Arts fair at the wonderful Forum, which is Southend award-winning shiny new library and art gallery.
Arcane Publishing will have a stall next to our designer Matt ArtPix, and we will be concentrating on entertainment, young readers, fantasy and sci-fi (more details about our stock will be revealed before the event!)
We will be selling copies of Carya Gish's first novel I Am a Muse at the special event price of £6 (instead of RRP of £7.99) and we will be promoting her next novel, The Book of Thoth, to be published later this autumn (unfortunately, it will be not printed on time for the fair!).

The Arcane Publishing team is looking forward to it!

Book 3 update and stall display for The Book of Thoth!

Picture
Miss Gish is now starting work on Book 3, The Right Place, set in Dorset. Read her blog about it HERE!
We have a draft publishing schedule for the book, but lack of funds might mean that this will have to be amended. As it stands, we are aiming for a pub date of November 2017 (!).
This is the optimistic schedule, by the way. Lack of funds might force us to change this on the way.

On our short break over the weekend, we found the perfect display background for the promotion of The Book of Thoth.
Apparently, it does genuinely come from Egypt (i.e probably a tourist market around sharm el-sheikh)!
But we were on the lookout for something that would spice up our stall when we get the printed copies back from the printers, and this looked like the ticket. So it's coming to a stall near you this autumn!

Old Spitalfields

Picture
Arcane Publishing and Matt ArtPix had a great day at So Vintage London at Old Spitalfields market yesterday. The truth is that this is probably our favourite market!
The logistics are incredibly easy (get into car/A13/arrive), you get a buzz the whole day because you are in the middle of that fabulous city that is London.
Our pitch was fantastic, with a lot of space to get creative with our tables and create a colourful and attractive stall. We had changed the layout of the stalls and we had tweaked our stock - and we had a lot of interest, people really looked and browsed and even asked us when we'd be back, which is fantastic.
Unfortunately, we cannot post any pictures of the day as WE HAD FORGOTTEN OUR CAMERA! But trust us, the stalls looked fab.
I now need to stock up on more books about vintage fashion and classic icons - my "Marilyn Monroe in fashion" book lasted less than an hour on the stall!
We hope to be back at Old Spitalfields market on November 1st (we booked some holidays and a local event ages ago for September and October!).
But Matt ArtPix and Arcane Publishing have been discussing the possibility of getting a monthly slot at Old Spitalfields in order to build up an audience/custom from 2015. Watch this space!

The Book of Thoth is on schedule!

Picture
Yesterday, Matt ArtPix finished the typesetting of The Book of Thoth. Now it's Miss Gish's turn to read through and make a few corrections and adjustments. Matt ArtPix will now finish off the cover design and we hope to have everything ready to go to the printers around 25th September after our much deserved holiday! We are on schedule, and it is getting very exciting! The book looks terrific!

Alchemical symbols

Picture
Apparently, the French town where Miss Gish grew up was a big centre for alchemy ! This series of intriguing symbols are located in a cul-de-sac named "l'impasse du chat" (the cat's cul-de-sac).
Sign 3 shows John Dee's  Monas Hieroglyphica, which features in our second novel, The Book of Thoth.

The Right Place

We have now sorted our publishing schedule  - and budget - for The Right Place, our third novel. The provisional pub date  is November 2017. It looks like a long way, but it takes a lot of time and hard work to get a novel published... We have worked out all the crucial stages...

Book number five: some fresh ideas...

Carya Gish has just had an idea for Book number 5! Head to her website to read all about it! (and yes, the The Hound of the Baskervilles cover is related to the blog!)

The Arcane Publishing online shop is up!

Picture

Well... Kind of...

WELCOME TO THE ARCANE PUBLISHING ONLINE SHOP!

So today I decided to try and get started on the Arcane Publishing online shop. I have chosen The Big Cartel as it seems to be the easiest to use. I am starting with their free option, so I cannot put in more than five products. At the moment, I am only selling I Am a Muse, but when I feel a bit more comfortable with that online selling thing, I might upgrade and then start selling some of my second-hand and vintage/rare books. Watch this space!

It's a bit rough and ready, I admit, and the design is a bit dodgy at the moment, but it seems to be working, and therefore, people can now buy I Am a Muse (it is using a Paypal payment account, and I still need to see how all this works.)

I am still quite nervous around technology and selling online is quite a big step for me. Let's see how things go...
