1/13/2014 First events of 2014 announced!Arcane Publishing is pleased to announce its first events of 2014!
We are starting on home turf, and will be appearing at the Southend Vintage Fair, Chase Sports Centre, Southend-on-Sea; I will be sharing a stall with my partner Matt ArtPix. Then a first for Arcane Publishing: we will have our own stall at the Crook Log Antiques and collectables fair at the Crook Log leisure centre in Bexleyheath. At those events, we will be selling a great selection of second-hand and vintage books - some rare! - and of course, copies of I Am a Muse. We are in the process of booking some more events, especially in London. We will keep you updated. Do check our events page regularly for more dates! 1/7/2014 Online shop ideasSo this year, it's all about publishing our second book and raising awareness of our little imprint.
As we are doing everything ourselves - writing, editing, design, marketing, promo, etc. - everything is going incredibly slowly. The writing gets in the way of the publisher side of things and the publisher side of things gets in the way of the writing, plus the fact that we need to (try to) earn a living to pay the bills... We have been thinking about setting up an online shop, but as we are not techies, computer wizzards or business geniuses, we are extremely worried about starting anything and getting it wrong... So we've started looking around for tips and inspiration. There's an interesting blog HERE about the pros and cons of SHOPIFY and some good hints about what you have to think about when choosing an e-commerce platform. There's a lot of reading and thinking to do, and this is a long-term thing, but it would be great to have an online shop up and running for the publication of our second novel. Watch this space! 12/12/2013 Extracts12/2/2013 End of the year...It is nearly the end of the year and Arcane Publishing goes into plotting mode for the next few weeks...
Arcane Publishing was born in July 2012, and in April 2013, we published our first book, I Am a Muse, by Carya Gish and attended our first literary festival! We still have a lot to learn about the publishing business and we are taking things very, very slowly, especially as we prefer to support independent booksellers, don't publish e-books and don't want to get ripped off by big distributors and online shops. So here is what we are going to do: Carya Gish needs to find some time to finish that very late first draft of The Book of Thoth... This is what happens when authors need to work at something else to pay the bills! But we are adamant that our second novel should be out by next December, and therefore The Book of Thoth will be out next autumn. Some further work on our publishing plan will involve planning for The Right Place, including applying for an Arts Council Grant - if we manage to understand the very complicated application form... We would like this book to be published in early 2016 at the latest. Also next year, we will be promoting I Am a Muse and Arcane Publishing in London and expanding the second-hand book side of things. Arcane Publishing will book stalls at various events over the next year, some will be in collaboration with Matt ArtPix, but we also would like to book our own space whenever possible in order to give the imprint a little bit more visibility. We will be doing a book listing in this website ready for early next year. And we need to think about the feasibility of an online shop! In the meantime, head to Carya Gish's blog where she will carry on blogging about writing, culture, music and more in the next few weeks... See you all in 2014! 11/21/2013 SHORELINES VIDEOMETAL presents : Shorelines from Sparky Film on Vimeo. Metal have just posted a fab video of Shorelines: Literature festival of the sea by Sparky Film. I Am a Muse was in very good company in the bookshop! Carya Gish will post an "insider report" on her website this week, and we will post a link here when it's done! 11/5/2013 Promo material!11/3/2013 Shorelines is this week!So the Shorelines festival is this weekend (Friday 8th-Sunday 10th November) and we at Arcane Publishing are ready albeit nervous!
On Sunday 10th November, between 1pm and 3pm (Room 7), Carya Gish will be reading the first pages of her third novel, The Right Thing, which will be published in 2016 - it is at the research stage at the moment and will be for the forthcoming year! There will be copies of I Am a Muse for sale in the bookshop the whole weekend - at a special festival price! - and we hope to have our brand new flyers ready for the event! 10/25/2013 Shorelines programmeYou can now find the PDF programme for the Shorelines festival HERE.
